Songbirds everywhere are in trouble. Their numbers are declining.  Many common birds are rarely seen these days. They are important for the ecosystem and so much more.   At Destined to Fly we are doing everything that we can to help songbird.

Our Projects

NESTBOXES

There are now over 20 nestboxes on the property that are used by Eastern Bluebirds, Tree Swallows, House Wrens and Great Crested Flycatchers and Red Squirrels as well.

GRASSLAND BIRD PRESERVATION

One third of the property is hayfields.    In our area haying is done twice, the first time is during breeding season.  Haying only happens once a year after the ground nesting birds have all raised their families.  We have two ground nesting birds here Eastern Meadowlarks and Bobolinks, both are Species at Risk in Ontario.

PROJECT FEEDERWATCH

Every year from November to April we participate in Project Feederwatch, a Citizen Project by Bird Studies Canada.
